Nondualism suggests that enlightenment is not a linear process with specific stages. It’s just not possible because it’s beyond time and space. But, some nondual teachings do describe different phases or aspects of realization that can occur on the path to enlightenment.
Here are 5 examples:
1 – Recognition of our true nature: This can be an initial phase where you recognize that your essential nature is pure consciousness, which is beyond the body-mind and any limitations.
2 – Integration of realization: After recognizing your true nature, the next step can be to integrate this realization into your daily life. This is done through practices like self-inquiry, meditation, mindfulness, and contemplation.
3 – Deepening of realization: As you continue to integrate into realization, you may experience deeper levels of understanding and clarity, leading to greater insights and a more profound sense of oneness.
4 – The dissolving of the sense of self: As both your understanding and insight deepen, the egoic sense of self may begin to dissolve, leading to a greater sense of openness, emptiness, and pure awareness.
5 – Integration of the absolute and relative: In the final stage, there is an integration of the absolute and relative aspects of reality, where you realize that everything is already perfect as it is, while also recognizing the importance of engaging with the world compassionately and skillfully.
It’s important to remember that these stages are not fixed or linear. You may even experience them differently from anyone else.
Most important, nondual teachings emphasize that the ultimate realization is beyond any conceptual or linear understanding that is contained in the mind.
It’s best understood through direct experience.
Always.
